| Great Sex and No Fear of Pregnancy. Tubal Ligation, "The Perfect Birth Control NOT!" The Cassandra Syndrome- Mythical Cassandra and how she applies to today's woman. Outline .
Susan Bucher is one of roughly 750,000 women who under went a tubal ligation in 1995. She thought she was getting the "perfect" birth control and that she had been thoroughly informed. Her physician had explained that the tubal ligation did not have any side effects and that her health would remain the same. He told her that the only thing that would be different about her after the tubal ligation is that she would, "no longer be able to get pregnant because the egg wouldn't be able to get to where it was going " He presented her with a brochure about the procedure, written and authored by the ACOG, which supported what he had just told her. She understood that there was a risk with the anesthesia as well as the risk of a bowel being injured, but she thought that if she lived through the surgery and if the physician didn't poke a hole in her bladder that her life would be enhanced by the surgery. No more fear of pregnancy meant her sex life would be improved. She and her husband could be more "spontaneous" with their sex life. She was also told that it would not be good for her "health" to remain on the pill at her age (34 years old). She consented to the tubal ligation because she thought it would be a safe healthy choice. After her tubal ligation, Susan's health took a drastic change. Both of her ovaries shut down an itrogenic side effect of the tubal ligation surgery. Her physician did not inform Susan that tubal ligations were known by the medical community to cause hormonal imbalances because of the blood supply being affected to the ovaries. She also was not informed when she returned to him complaining of menopausal type symptoms. Her surgical menopause/female castration caused negative physical and physiological side effects. She suffered chronic fatigue type symptoms, loss of her sex drive, depression and severe PMS that bordered on uncontrollable rage. The castration side effects also included memory loss, fuzzy logic, and confusion that caused her to go into and out of a dementia type state that added to her depression. All were a result of the abrupt hormone level changes and hormone shock she was suffering. Once diagnosed she began a quest for truth and justice but instead of justice she went on to suffer further medical abuses. The following is the account of the bizarre series of events that took place, and how the medical community labels post-tubal women "Cassandra"
Intro into today case examples . How men scream Cassandra . - examples 3. That the story of Cassandra can be shown in modern day events .
Further silence - discredit, slander, etc To create Cassandra....
