| Information
for Prospective CPTwomen State Representatives and Delegates State "Representatives" and "Delegates" will be "public" figures representing the coalition. This a grass roots effort. As a State Rep or Delegate you will gain the satisfaction of knowing that you CAN make a difference and changes do happen for the better. Women have had to really ban together in the past to make their voices herd. This issue is no different, and in many way even more important that we organize and take a PUBLIC stand. The Coalition for Post Tubal Ligation will help you with "actions", organizing, "what to do..." so your role as a "State Rep" will go as smoothly and hassle free as possible... still it does involve some work and time on your part. Meetings between state reps and the delegates, etc... will take place regularly via internet chat, e-mail, phone, and in person. The main role of a state rep will be a "contact" for post tubal ligation women within that state or area to reach out to. They will also be someone for the media, press, and other organizations to contact for more information about the issue. Our goals *** Our Philosophy *** The "Coalition for Post Tubal Ligation" women is not "anti-tubal". We do not want the "choice" of tubal ligation to be taken away from women. We just want "true" informed consent and "all information" given to women when they are presented with this birth control option. If a woman understands the risks (all risks), and the side effects associated with TL's, as well as understanding the side effects of the "treatments" that will be required if she does suffer castration (loss of libido, HRT for life AND the side effects that this treatment will pose such as higher risk of breast cancer, risk of stroke, etc...) and if she still wishes to undergo this "elective" surgery, then she has a right to do so. *** Duties of state representatives and delegates *** State reps will meet with women educating them about the issue and collecting data. State reps will be responsible for contacting (faxing) press releases/service announcements (We will help you do this) to newspaper publications, radio, etc... which will be stating that Coalition is looking for post tubal women to be involved in a long term health care follow up study. This "follow up study" is independent and will be on going. Meetings can take place at any public area (libraries, churches, etc...). If the reps don't have a fax machine, the main office of the CPTL Women can send out the fax's for them to the media. The contact information for the service announcements however will be that of the state rep, (or were the meeting is scheduled to be held) . The main office information of the CPTL Women (and the internet page) will also be listed in these service annousements/press releases as well. State reps will then meet with the women, educate them about the issues (the majority don't even realize that they were misinformed at the time of their surgery and that they are a victim of medical fraud) and collect data. The questionnaires will also be posted on the internet, so some women will fill them out and send them in directly, but... not everyone who is post tubal has a computer... And this is one reason that state reps are needed. We need to reach out to the community in whole, not just to the internet community. Other duties of being a state rep... State reps will be responsible for organizing public meetings, petition drives and forwarding the collected petitions and survey information to the CPTL Women. These petitions will also be supplied to the women who's data is collected so they may collect signatures. Anyone (of "voting status") can collect or sign the petitions. Petitions forms will also be posted on the internet. State reps will also be asked to contact and or meet with their state reps about having informed consent laws passed. Example letters and other information will be supplied for this purpose. *** Marches and Potests *** In history, what have women had to do to make their voices herd? Really herd? There was a time not long ago that women didn't even have the right to vote. "Suffrage" They marched and made public protests. They demanded their rights. Marches and protests will be scheduled by state delegates. Anyone outraged (women, men, old, young) is welcome to join. *** Other Important Information *** This issue is a NOW issue. State reps for the CPTL Women, as well as all post tubal ligation women are asked to become NOW members but this, however, is not a requirement. It would be unrealistic to require every post tubal women to become a member of NOW, but they should understand that it is a NOW issue. This issue is also a human rights issue, a legal issue, informed consent rights issue, and more. This being a NOW issue, however, and by becoming a NOW member will only benefit and help the state rep. NOW can and will help network, and in many cases the women within the NOW organization will help with contacting elective government about the issues of having laws changed, data collection, petitions, education, and the overall work that the state rep will be asked to do. *** Ready to make History? *** Ready to get involved?
