Susan J. Bucher - Bio FAIR (Family
Advocating Injury Reduction) My work with FAIR has been that of Medical Rights. FAIR has been working with consumer rights legislators on a IL Patients Rights law for years, with much objection and hard opposition form the medical community. In theory medical boards are put in place to protect the citizens of that state, but it doesn't always work that way. Medical boards are subjected to bias pressure from outside parties, and are guilty of selective enforcement. Selective enforcement is that of removing whistle blowers who expose other doctors and abusive practices, and/or turning a blind eye and allowing doctors who give bribes or have nepotism to continue to practice. To much extent it's who you are, who you know, if you pay your dues, and who you pay them to... FAIR has been the watchdog over the IL DPR (Department of Professional Regulations) who is responsible for licensing doctors, investigating when a complain is made, and discipline doctors when required. It has been uncovered that the "license for bribes" scandal regarding the IL Secretary of State selling drivers licenses to truck drivers to finance Governor George Ryan (piggy bank?) overlaps to the DPR and the licensing of doctors. While the DPR can't "sell" a license to a doctor, they can at direction turn a blind eye and close cases when a complaint is waged against a doctor so that he/she can "retain" their license. Hence exposing the "Case Closed" scandals.... Mr. Leonard Sherman, the director of the DPR, just recently resigned (fall '02) publicly stating that he wanted to spend more time with his family. It has been reported however that he was scheduled to be indicted regarding the bribe scandals. His deal for cooperating with the federal authorities he will serve no jail time.... More about the DPR, Leonard Sherman, John Coglhan (the DPR's director of enforcement, and the governor G Ryan's son-in-law) and what happened in my case (with the medical boards and with the courts) can be found at the on-line book, The Cassandra Syndrome, which is currently being written. NOW - The National Organization for Women My husband directed me to NOW for help and support. On October 21, 1998, I presented to NOW the facts. Video of this speech will soon be posted. My local chapter is the IL Will County NOW. My focus is that of women's health rights and tubal informed consent. I am the NOW contact for the tubal informed consent issue, working to put in place the proper laws which will require doctors to fully inform women prior to tubal ligation. I ask women to join not only the CPTwomen, but to also join NOW if they are really serious about helping get the proper informed consent laws put in place. While it's not required to be a NOW member to work with me or the CPTwomen, NOW is for women's issues, and the tubal ligation informed consent issue is a NOW issue. See the 1999 NOW Tubal
Resolution: Founder of the
CPTwomen AKA This web site was the first of it's kind to educate women of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome (PTS) and to expose the politics surrounding the issue. We are working to make positive changes and to put laws in place so that all women will be educated of PTS prior to Tubal Ligation. More... Susan is married and resides in Lockport, IL with her husband, two daughters, and two miniature rat terriers dogs. When she isn't busy with speaking engagements and other work for the CPTwomen she spends time with her family and has a passion for making glass beads (lampwork) which she says, "I never have enough time for the glass work...".
